MacMerge Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 25, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how MacMerge handles information and files. MacMerge is a local comparison tool for macOS that lets users compare selected files, pasted text, and folders on their own Mac.
1. Personal Information We Collect
MacMerge does not collect personal information on developer-operated servers.
MacMerge does not use:
- Account registration or login
- Advertising tracking
- User analytics SDKs
- File uploads to external servers
- Remote database storage
The developer does not collect or access the contents of files you compare, pasted text, comparison results, or file paths.
2. File and Folder Access
MacMerge runs in the macOS sandbox. The app can access only files and folders that you explicitly select or allow.
File and folder access may occur when:
- You choose a left or right file using the file picker
- You drag and drop files or folders into the app window
- You save comparison changes or export an HTML report
- You select two folders for folder comparison
MacMerge does not scan files or folders that you have not selected.
3. Data Processed Inside the App
To provide comparison features, MacMerge reads and processes the files, folders, and pasted text you choose. This processing happens locally on your Mac.
Examples of data processed by the app include:
- Text content of files selected for comparison
- Text pasted directly into the app
- File names and relative paths used for folder comparison
- Comparison results, change groups, search results, and row filter state
- Result files that you choose to save or export
This data is used only to provide the app's comparison features.
4. Information Stored Locally
MacMerge may store some information locally on your device for convenience.
Locally stored information may include:
- Recent comparison sessions
- Recently compared left and right file paths
- Comparison options
- Selected file encoding
- Window size and app settings
- Recent session names
This information helps you reopen previous comparisons and keep your preferred settings. Recent sessions can be deleted inside the app.
5. Network Transmission
MacMerge does not send compared file contents, pasted text, folder contents, or comparison results to external servers.
The app does not require an internet connection to perform comparison features.
If you use system features such as writing an App Store review, opening the App Store page, or opening a help or support link, macOS or the App Store may process that request. Those external services are governed by their own privacy policies.
6. Third-Party Services
MacMerge does not include advertising networks, analytics SDKs, tracking SDKs, third-party login services, or cloud storage services.
7. Children's Privacy
MacMerge does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app is a local file comparison tool and does not provide account registration or user identification features.
8. Data Deletion
You can delete recent sessions inside the app. You may also remove locally stored app settings and recent session information by deleting the app and its related application data from macOS.
Files or HTML reports that you choose to save remain in the location you selected and can be deleted manually in Finder.
9. Security
MacMerge uses the macOS sandbox permission model and accesses only files and folders you allow. Comparison work is processed on your device, and comparison data is not sent to developer-operated servers.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated to reflect app changes, legal requirements, or App Store policy changes. When updates are made, the "Last updated" date at the top of this document will be revised.
11. Contact
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy, please contact the developer through the App Store developer contact information or the MacMerge support URL.
