How to Troubleshoot When the Battery Charging Sound  Alarm App Malfunctions

Hello, I'm the developer of the MacBook-exclusive charging alert app (available on the Mac App Store).

I'd like to provide you with some guidance on what to check and recommended actions in case the app behaves abnormally.

Things to Check

Please verify whether the battery's current capacity is being displayed as abnormal values such as 4330% or 243%.
The current capacity value should never exceed 100%.

Upon reviewing the screenshot you provided, it appears that the battery’s current capacity is being displayed as abnormal values such as 4330%, 243%, and 703%. This suggests that incorrect data is being delivered from the system.

Although rare, this issue can occur when macOS or the battery sensor (SMC) temporarily provides incorrect information to the app. It may also happen if a non-genuine battery is in use.

The app generates notifications based on the values received from the system, so if outliers are detected, the notifications may be triggered incorrectly.

Recommended actions:

  1. Completely shut down your Mac and restart it.
  2. If the issue persists, try resetting the SMC (https://support.apple.com/HT201295).

We apologize for the inconvenience. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us anytime.
Thank you.

Why did this happen?
✅ Current Capacity = 4330% → System-level error

This value, which is far outside the normal range (0–100%), is typically caused by one of the following:

Cause Type Detailed Explanation

Cause Type Detailed Explanation
macOS IOKit Reporting Error Occasionally, macOS returns incorrect values from IOPSCopyPowerSourcesInfo() or AppleSmartBattery (e.g., internal data corruption).
SMC (System Management Controller) Error If the SMC, which manages the Mac’s battery/power sensor information, malfunctions, it may send false values to the app.
Use of Third-Party Battery If the user has replaced the battery with a non-genuine Apple battery, sensor values may be inaccurate.
macOS Bug or Internal API Compatibility Issue Rarely, this issue may occur on unsupported hardware after a macOS update due to compatibility problems with internal APIs.
